Keila
Keila, 29 years old, born and raised in the outskirts of Belém, began as a soloist in her church’s children’s choir. At 13, she joined the State Youth Lyric Choir, and with her natural talent for dance, she was always involved in dance groups, with street dance being her greatest passion. At 15, she started performing in small bars at night. By 17, she was playing in several local bands until she was invited to take on vocals for Gang do Eletro.
Gang do Eletro
Her first major show with the group was on the stage of the Se Rasgum Festival, earning praise in major outlets such as Rolling Stone and Billboard. With Gang do Eletro, Keila toured throughout Pará’s countryside, across Brazil, and abroad. She performed at important international festivals such as South by Southwest (USA), Transmusicale (France), Lusotronics (Germany), and Global (Denmark). In 2016, she performed at the Rio Olympics Opening Ceremony.
In Brazil, she performed at Sonar, Terruá Pará, Rec Beat, Quebramar, Favela Sounds, among others. In 2012, the band won the Multishow Revelation of the Year Award, and in 2013, they shared the Best Live Show of the Year Award with Caetano Veloso, also at the Multishow Awards. Their self-titled debut album, Gang do Eletro (2013), was highly acclaimed and featured in many “Best Albums” lists alongside major international artists. In 2015, they released their second album, Todo Mundo Tá Tremendo. Gang do Eletro has four official music videos online: Velocidade do Eletro, Tubagas, Galera da Laje, and Na Onda do Movimento. They also appeared on popular Brazilian TV shows such as Encontro, TV Xuxa, Esquenta, Legendários, Eliana, and Agora é Tarde. Their songs have been featured in soap operas like Chiquititas, Cúmplices de Um Resgate, Além do Horizonte, Malhação, and A Regra do Jogo.
Solo Career
Singer and songwriter Keila released her first solo project, a self-titled EP, where she showcased her vocal strength and embraced a more diverse and energetic sound. In 2018, she released the single/video Vai Tremer. In 2019, she launched the album Malaka, a project selected by Natura Musical through the Semear Law (PA). The album also spawned the videos for Brega Doido and Loka.
She has also made remarkable collaborations, lending her voice to “Dois Segundos” from João Donato & Donatinho’s Sintetizamor album, and the single Respeita with TrapFunk&Alivio, bridging the outskirts of Pará and Bahia. She also collaborated on the track TREME with DJs FrediChernoby, Vojno Dizdar, and Neki (Albania), Fogo no Rabo with DJ Patrick Torquato, and Terra é Plana with the band Muntchako, among others.
Keila has graced the stages of Favela Sounds (DF), Festival Lambateria and Se Rasgum (PA), Música de Rua, El Mapa de Todos (RS), SIM São Paulo (SP), Tropical Transforma (BA), and Rock in Rio (RJ, 2019). In 2018, she was invited by the band Francisco, el Hombre to perform on the closing day of Lollapalooza.
Other Works
Keila is also an actress. She appeared in the film Órfãos de Eldorado by Guilherme Coelho and had a supporting role in Jorane Castro’s feature film Para Ter Onde Ir, for which she won Best Supporting Actress at the Guarnicê Festival and Best Actress at Maranhão’s Na Tela Film Festival. Additionally, she acted in the short film Encantada do Brega and starred in the fifth episode of the hit web series Sampleados.
