Plants Can Dance (And Mushrooms Sing) with Brian d’Souza

LOCATION: Living Worlds

TIME: 13:00 - 13:45

Plants Can Dance (and Mushrooms Sing) explores composing music in collaboration with living organisms from the natural world. Founded in 2024 by award-winning DJ and sound artist Brian d’Souza (aka Auntie Flo), the project uses a process called biosonification to convert plant bioelectricity into sound, allowing us to hear plant data as music.

Brian’s work has been featured at the V&A, Tate, Design Museum, Discovery Channel, BBC 6 Music, Radio 4, and more. He hopes his work will inspire a newfound appreciation for the natural world.

During the performance, audiences will hear live music generated from plant bioelectricity, followed by an interactive Biosonification Workshop at 3pm (Top Floor, Free drop in), where participants can learn how to make music from plants

His compositions fuse field recording from around the globe with electro-acoustic production techniques to create ‘acoustic ecologies’ that are centred on exploring the psychological and physical benefits of sound.
