Jamie-Lee Davids
Jamie-Lee Davids was born and raised in Lavender Hill, and grew up in Manenberg, two of the most dangerous areas on the Cape Flats, a gang affected area of Cape Town ,South Africa. She currently works as Centre Administrator for Rise Above Development(RAD), a youth centre, built with the support of In Place Of War, whose aim is to give the young people of Lavender Hill a safe space to learn and grow holistically through music and art.
Jamie-Lee is passionate about the development of the children in her community. On the days she not working at RAD, she dedicates her time to the holistic growth of both her own and those around her. She aspires to be a mentor to the children she works with, creating a space within herself where they can feel safe, heard, valued, and where they know, they can turn to her at any time.
She says "One of my biggest achievements thus far was to help bring the light in children's eyes after they've experienced the darkness. Life on the Cape Flats has humbled me and taught me to embrace every experience, good or bad.
