EarthSonic Youth Champion Chat

Community Guidelines

The EarthSonic Youth Champion Chat is a space for young people to connect, share ideas, ask questions and support one another.

The chat is intended to help Youth Champions build connections, share opportunities and knowledge, and stay connected to the wider EarthSonic community.

We want this to be a space where people feel comfortable contributing, asking questions and sharing their experiences. To help make that possible, we ask everyone to follow a few simple guidelines.

Be active and supportive

The value of the Youth Champion Chat comes from what we share with one another.

Please feel free to share opportunities, resources, ideas, questions and useful information. You can also use the chat to connect with other Youth Champions, ask for advice or offer support.

You don't need to be active all the time, but we encourage everyone to contribute when they have something useful to share.

Share useful and accurate information

The chat is built around sharing knowledge and opportunities.

Please make sure that anything you share is accurate to the best of your knowledge. If you're not sure about something, say so. Where possible, share links or sources so others can find out more.

Keep it relevant

The Youth Champion Chat is primarily for conversations connected to EarthSonic, climate action, creativity, youth leadership, opportunities and the work of members of the community.

You're welcome to share your own projects, campaigns and opportunities when they're relevant and useful to other Youth Champions. Please avoid repeated or unrelated promotion.

Be inclusive

EarthSonic brings together young people with different experiences, identities, cultures and perspectives.

Be curious about those differences and make space for other people to contribute. Please avoid language or behaviour that is discriminatory, derogatory or exclusionary, including around gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, nationality, socioeconomic background or other aspects of someone's identity.

Be respectful

We want the chat to be a space where people can disagree, ask difficult questions and have honest conversations.

Please challenge ideas rather than individuals. No bullying, harassment, name-calling, intimidation or deliberately hostile behaviour.

We have a zero-tolerance approach to hate speech and hateful behaviour. Serious incidents may result in someone being removed from the chat without warning.

Respect people's privacy

Please treat information shared in the Youth Champion Chat with care.

Don't share another member's contact details, messages or personal information outside the community without their permission.

Please also respect people's boundaries. Don't pressure someone to respond to you, share personal information, move a conversation to another platform or meet in person.

If someone has not invited you to contact them privately, please give them space.

Keep the space appropriate

The Youth Champion Chat brings together young people from different backgrounds and experiences. Please keep conversations appropriate for the wider community.

Don't share explicit sexual content, graphic or disturbing material, or content that could reasonably make other members feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Bullying, harassment, mocking or targeted abuse won't be tolerated.

Look after yourself and each other

You should never feel pressured to share more than you're comfortable sharing.

If a conversation or interaction makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you can step away and contact the EarthSonic team.

We also encourage members to look out for one another and to speak up if they see behaviour that goes against these guidelines.

Questions, concerns or reporting

The EarthSonic Youth Champion Chat is supported by the EarthSonic team, but it isn't monitored full-time. We ask members to be patient if a response isn't immediate.

For general WhatsApp questions or technical issues, please use the WhatsApp Help Center.

If you have a concern about the community, want to report a violation of these guidelines, or are unsure about something you've experienced in the chat, please email finlay@inplaceofwar.net.

Community guidelines

By joining the EarthSonic Youth Champion Chat, you agree to follow these guidelines.

The EarthSonic team may remove messages or members where necessary to protect the safety and wellbeing of the community. Where appropriate, we may first speak privately with someone if their behaviour appears to come from a misunderstanding rather than harmful intent.

Our aim is not to police conversation. It's to create a space where young people can connect, learn from one another and build the relationships needed to turn climate ambition into action.
