Afreena Islam-Wright

Afreena Islam-Wright is a Manchester-based theatre-maker, producer and creative practitioner whose work centres on storytelling, identity and cultural dialogue.

As a theatre-maker, she has created and toured acclaimed pieces such as LUCKY TONIGHT! (winner of Best Performance at the Manchester Culture Awards 2025), Daughters of the Curry Revolution, and Meet Me at the Cemetery Gates.

Her professional career spans 15 years, with experience in producing and project management for HOME, Cambridge Junction and Arts Council England.

Outside of her role at In Place of War, she is currently directing the play "My Mum Told Me Not To Marry an Atheist" by Amina Aaliya Beg, she hosts pub quizzes at her local pubs, and she is Co-Chair of Governors at her children's school.
