About
Sonic Collaborations is the partnership of two highly experienced musical composers and performers. We come from a classical background, but work across genres and collaborate frequently with jazz and rock musicians, as well as using a lot of electronic and environmental sounds. As a partnership our work often seems to centre around water. We produced the site-specific immersive audio experience 'Cutty Sark Soundscape' and the environmental album 'Ocean Songs'. The latter is our current focus. We worked with oceanographer Prof. Helen Czerski and broadcaster George Monbiot to layer in scientific and environmental spoken-word to the ten Ocean Songs tracks, and we are working on a live spoken-word and music collaboration with Helen for Summer 2026. We also work with a youth and community music engagement specialist and have performed with groups of community singers in Suffolk and the South East.

Project Goals for the next 6-12 Months
Our current goal is to tour Ocean Songs, ideally bringing its messaging about the ocean environment to venues and locations that are linked to the sea. We have the potential to work with school or community choirs as part of this, with resources and workshops that allow local choirs to collaborate with us. We are also open to other collaborations: our interests include making site-specific music and collaborations with other artforms. For example, with 'Cutty Sark Soundscape' we worked with a technology company so that users could trigger different versions of the headphone experience with in-app choices.
